RESCUE TEST COURSE

The club needs as large a pool as possible of volunteers qualified to act as 'lifeguards' during training sessions.  This helps to keep fees down as the club does not have to pay the leisure centre to provide a lifeguard for the session if we can provide our own cover.  The minimum qualification required is the RLSS Rescue Test and there will be a course running in Blyth over February (click here for details).  Any parent or older swimmer who wishes to enrol on this course, please contact Lynda Garland as soon as possible.

PARENTS - please read before purchasing any new competition swimsuits.

SWIMMERS - please read, it is your responsibility to comply with the rules.

SWIMSUIT RULING FOR 2010

From 1st January 2010 all competitions in England, Scotland and Wales will be applying the FINA rules in relation to Swimsuits for swimming (excluding Masters and Open Water) competitions.

2009 Annual Club Championships

The 2009 Club Championships were held on 21st November 2009.  Entries were healthy, and competition fierce, especially in the younger events, though the absence of a number of the older male swimmers was noticeable, due in part to a clash of dates with a school function.  The Minnows treated spectators to a display of their talents, and it was noticeable how much improvement some of them have made since the last gala in May.

Two new club records were set at this year's annual gala, both in freestyle.  In the 9 and under boys age group, Callum Garland set a new record time of 17.31 for the 25m freestyle,  Alex Welsh broke his own 16 and over men's record for the 100m freestyle, setting a new time of 57.10.

At the presentation of trophies and medals after the competition, the Swimmer of the Year awards were also presented.  Swimmers of the Year 2009 are:

Tadpoles - William Pallett for his attitude to training, his attendance, his determination, his improvement during the year, and his potential as a swimmer.

Killer Whales - Callum Garland for his attitude to training, his attendance, his desire to improve, and his participation and achievement in competitions.

Tiger Sharks - John Kelly for his attitude to training, his determination, his participation and achievement in competitions, and because he has the best streamlining in the whole club.

Barracudas - Robert Carr for his determination and commitment, particularly in regaining his fitness after illness, and for his achievement in competitions.

Morpeth ASC Swimmer of the Year - Gregory Parker to recognise his achievements in competitions this year, particularly his qualification for the major championships (the Northumberland and Durham County Championships and the long course North East Region Championships).

Full gala results can be downloaded here.

Congratulations to Head coach, Jenny Glossop, who has gained her UKCC Level 3 Swimming Coach qualification, and to Carol Dawson who has passed the UKCC Level 2 Swimming Coach qualification.

Also, well done to Claire, Tim and Stuart who have recently passed the RLSS Rescue Test and are now helping out on the poolside to help ensure the safety of all the swimmers.

The club's Swim 21 accreditation has been successfully revalidated for 2009/10.
